Bloodbowl Elves: XI

After much thinking have decided that the gloves have to be red as well.  I was going to go for either brown or black - which would be more practical on a blood bowl field but these are elves and would be more interested in being aesthetically pleasing rather than practical.
Red it is.

Adding more details to the trousers now.  I'm carefully filling in the diamonds with varying contrasting colours.  They all look "uniform yet different".

Bloodbowl Elves: IX

Progress against the odds.

I think family life is as hectic as work!
I've managed to paint the hair which will all be varying natural colours - I'll hilight some with more blondes than others later on.
I had to add a quick wash to the hair as it was becoming annoying being so "flat".  To make them all different I've used a different base colour and a different wash for each one.

Bloodbowl Elves: VIII

After consultation with the client I now know that this team will be played as "Pro Elves" - a mixture of Wood Elves and High Elves. This will mean that I'll probably avoid black hair and go for more blonde/browns, (we'll see though).

Shoulder pads were also discussed and we've agreed that a plain block colour will look better, so, red is the choice.

Now that they've all had their red shoulder pads issued they do look like a team rather than a collection of gonks thrown together.

Now that this is clear in my mind I should be able to progress nicely.

Got over getting distracted.

Just a quick job as I can't stand playing with unpainted gonks. It brings bad luck on any side/team/army...

BloodBowl Elves: VII

OK - now the fun can start.

I can start to fill in the diamonds - it is very satisfying to see the pattern emerge. There will be a mix of green, red, blue and black to keep the whole look random but connected.

(Fingers crossed it'll work).

I'm not sure if these will be Dark Elves or Goody Goody Elves so will wait to do the hair. Maybe natural, maybe lairy green/blues, (but I've recently done these on a human team), or maybe good old contrasting black.

Once I've done the rest of the diamonds I'll go back and highlight them individually with a proper weeny brush.

I am itching to give the gonk a bit of a wash as it all very flat and boring at the moment.

Got distracted.

I have reviewed my Bloodbowl team as I'm in a new season at The Games Vault - currently four divisions!

Shock horror. I've got an unpainted gonk which needs some Gonk Machine action before Thursday.

(I'll set the machine up on auto so that it can do my Number 9 Orc while I figure the next move on the Elves).

I've got to try and remember the rules as well now.

BloodBowl Elves: VI

The next stage, after the initial block colours is to start planning the fancy diamond bits.

Diamonds, (and checks) are easier than people think - just take your time and try and plan in your head what the gonk will look like when the bits are filled in.

TGM TOP TIP: If you are planning to do a bit of fancy diamonds or checks then paint the lighter colour first. It is much easier to go over a light colour than putting several coats over a dark background. Also - experiment on scrap paper or card first!

I've tried to plan a kind of random theme to these elves - they need to be bright but the colours also need to work. I think I've got to check my colour wheel...

Back To Business

Had a great weekend away with the family but didn’t get much in the way of painting done. (Late nights and early mornings).

I didn’t take the fancy elves as I knew the light wouldn’t be good enough to see the patterns I’m doing. (See later...)

I did take some Goblin Wolf Riders which needed scraping and basing and gluing – these are for an ongoing MASSIVE Goblin Horde which I pick up and put down every now and then.
So, it wasn’t a completely Gonk Free time!

The wolves and their riders are all based and undercoated ready for some paint to be slapped on. They shouldn’t take too long as they will be painted to a basic “tabletop” standard.
